The GhanThe Ghan

The Ghan is one of the world's most famous long distance luxury trains, a modern diesel-hauled train offering a total travel experience. Red Kangaroo Service Sleepers (economy class), and Gold Kangaroo Service Sleepers (first class) are available. There are 2 lounges, a bar and the elegant Art Deco themed Sturt Restaurant onboard. Gold Kangaroo Service = All Meals included. *Red Kangaroo Service = no meals.

Platinum Service introduces a new spacious deluxe cabin with a level of appointment that matches the best train cabins in the world. This is complemented by a new standard of service that reflects a deluxe hotel.    
The exclusive Platinum Service has a total of 25 cabins in 5 carriages that accommodate up to 50 guests.   Available once a week from Adelaide to Darwin and once a week from Darwin to Adelaide.

This epic trek of 4,352 kilometers spans Australia from coast to coast from the vast Pacific to the sparkling Indian Ocean. No other journey in the world crosses so many different terrains in one country. Gold (first) class and Red (economy) class sleepers offer comfortable accommodation. The SunlanderThe Sunlander offers a comfortable and affordable way to see the inland coast of Queensland between Brisbane and Cairns. The Sunlander meanders its way through the scenic, lush countryside of the inland coastal towns of Bundaberg and Gladstone, through to the sub-tropical regions of Mackay, Proserpine and Bowen until reaching its final destination of Cairns. The Sunlander now incorporates what was the Queenslander service and offers Queenslander Class, an inclusive package of first class travel.

Perfect for the astute, indulgent traveller, Queenslander Class is the ideal way to experience the picturesque coastal stretch between Brisbane and Cairns. Enjoy comfortable, fully air-conditioned lounge cars and dining facilities on your leisurely 32 hour, 1681 kilometre journey. Sumptuous meals are presented in the fine dining atmosphere of the Dining Queenslander ClassCar, or while away the hours with a cool drink and live entertainment in the Lounge Car.

All Queenslander Class sleeping berths are fitted with overhead reading lights, washbasins, fresh crisp linen, stationery packs, toiletries and bathrobes.   Adult fares (from Brisbane to Cairns) start at AUD$761 for sleeping berth

SPECIAL - 20% discount for international guests for travel 5th October 2009 – 31st March 2010. Discount applies to adult fares only for new bookings on Queenslander Class services between Brisbane and Cairns and intermediate points or vice versa.


Austrail Pass available from 1 April 2009.
Ausrail Pass will allow unlimited travel over a 6 month period - AUD$800 if purchased outside Australia (AUD$890 - if purchased in Australia)

There is a choice of 4 rail passes for international budget travellers to explore Australia, all of which provide up to 10% off if pre-purchased prior to arrival in Australia. These are the East Coast Discovery Pass, Rail Explorer Pass, Backtracker Rail Pass and new Austrail Pass. All passes cover the cost of travel in Economy or Red Service seats. Fuel surcharges apply on The Ghan, Indian Pacific and The Overland. Seat reservations must be made in advance
