"Freewheeler" rent-a-car packages where you have complete freedom to build your own itinerary. Select the vehicle that suits you best and what style of accommodation you like. You can mix categories and pre-purchase vouchers.
If you want to be totally independent you will love the fully equipped Motorhomes. Just add your personal possessions, stock up with some food and off you go! With over 400 camping grounds throughout New Zealand there is little need to book ahead. Of course you are not restricted to camping grounds; you could quite easily pull over for the night beside that secluded mountain stream or clear blue lake giving you that "away from it all" feeling!

Bond of NZ$2925 or NZ$3375 ( ADE - Accident Damage Excess
is the excess payable on commencement of hire and is refunded
in full upon return of vehicle in a clean condition with
no damage to vehicle or third party property. (AER
is available to reduce insurance excess paid on commencement
of hire at rental counter at NZ$21.38 per day, Groups ECMR
- FWAR: NZ$191.25,Groups IFAR,LVAR,FFAR & XVAR: NZ$281.50). Glass Cover Insurance (GCI) is available to reduce the insurance
excess on all glass damage (windscreens, windows & headlights)
as listed below: To be paid on commencement of hire at rental
counter: $5.62 for all vehicle groups, reduces excess to
NIL
Note: Rates are quoted in US Dollars and
subject to change with exchange rate fluctuations.
Rates based on a 24 hours rental basis. When returning
the vehicle Thrifty allows a grace period of 59 minutes
after which an extra full day will be charged. Vehicle Types
vary. Minimum Hire of 3 days in each island applies. Further
discount for rentals of 21 days or more (on application).
Hires are available
New Zealand wide locations. No drop off fees. Vehicles are
not taken on ferry between North and South Island. A one
way rental fee does not apply provided the rental extends
for a minimum of 3 consecutive days on any given island.
Driver
Requirements: The minimum rental age is 21 years.
All intending drivers must present a valid full national
driving licence, which has been held for at least one year.
A current International Driving Licence must accompany driving
licences issued in a language other than English.
