The custom built Aranui III is specially designed with space and passenger comfort in mind, and can comfortably accommodate 60 passengers with many of the amenities found on larger cruise ships: air-conditioned cabins, bar, lounge, video room, library, and a sun deck with a swimming pool. Suites have private balconies. However, passenger should note that the Aranui is first and foremost a working freighter, not a luxury cruise liner.
As an inter island trading ship, it provides isolated villages in the Marquesas and Tuamotu Islands with all manner of meat, medicine, cement, lumber, fuel, beer and other staples. The freighter then brings back copra, pearl shells and other local products to the main islands.
Watching the crew handle the movement of cargo is all part of the fascination of the voyage. And once in the Marquesas, you will explore some of the most beautiful and least visited islands in the world...thousands of miles from any continent and for the most part, accessible only by sea.
Visits to remote
archaeological sites, Gauguin's grave and more are all included
in the cost of the cruise. If your time does not allow you
to enjoy the complete Aranui cruise, it is possible on some
sailing dates to fly to the Marquesas and board the ship
for a partial cruise.
