Upolu, home to Samoa’s capital Apia, is where you can spend a few nights as a base for exploring. There are several fine hotels and plenty of budget inns. Beyond the town you’ll find alluring beaches with a handful of nice boutique beach resorts along the south and west coast of Upolu. The interior exudes a special and mystic charm.  Numerous tracks that lead through lush rainforests to rivers and dramatically beautiful waterfalls.

The neighboring big island of Savai’i is just 10 miles to the west (accessible by 20 minute scenic flight or a 45-minute ferry) A scenic treasure trove offering everything from a rich,  marine life and breath-taking waterfalls, to caves, blowholes and rainforests teeming with birds and plants. You’ll find several nice boutique resorts and plenty of budget beach huts (fales) most operated by local families on traditional village land. We recommend accredited beach fales, usually in outstanding scenic locations.

A selection of hotels, motels, resorts and beach fale accommodation is available:

Sunday through Thursday nights are relatively quiet in Apia, but on weekends everyone with an itch to drink, dance, and socialize heads down Beach Road, newer Apia Harbor, hitting one pub after another. Most of these have live bands on Friday (the biggest night) and Saturday. Pubs legally must close at midnight throughout the week (none are open on Sunday). Several fine restaurants offer local & New Zealand produce in a variety of preparations.
Pleasantly warm throughout the year with an average temperature of 29 degrees Celsius. (84 Fahrenheit) Conditions from May to November are cooled by the Southeast trade winds.

Samoa’s climate is tropical and marked by a distinct wet and warm (November – April) and dry and cool (May-October) seasons. Temperatures are typically tropical (ranging from 24 to 32 degrees C daily) and generally uniform throughout the year with little seasonal variation due to Samoa’s near-equatorial location.

The rainfall and humidity are usually high with average annual rainfall about 3,000mm with approximately 66% of the precipitation occurring during the wet season.

Samoa is four hours behind pacific daylight time (on the North American side of the international date line) and local currency is the Samoa Tala– a great exchange rate for the North American traveler.
  • Fiji Airways once weekly from Honolulu & 3 times weekly from Nadi, Fiji.
  • Air New Zealand operates daily flights from Auckland, New Zealand.
  • Virgin Samoa from Sydney, Australia.
  • Polynesian Airlines operates the short haul between Samoa and American Samoa.
