Today’s highlights feature – Koalas, Fur Seals, Remarkable Rocks, Admirals Arch, Cape du Couedic.
Travel to the western section of the island and discover the remarkable Flinders Chase National Park, one of the oldest and most important national parks in South Australia. The park incorporates almost 20 per cent of the island and much of it is a Wilderness Protection Area, home to a variety of fauna and flora unique to Kangaroo Island. In spring (August – November) a wonderful variety of native flowers carpet the area, making it a picturesque backdrop for the wildlife and unusual geological formations.

Enjoy the opportunity to walk through the park in search for kangaroos, wallabies and a variety of birdlife. See at close range some of the 10, 000 healthy New Zealand fur seals in their colony at Cape du Couedic and discover the formation of the Remarkable Rocks. These large granite boulders balance dramatically on the cliff edge, which plunges 75 meters into the turbulent Southern Ocean below. At Admirals Arch see where the powerful forces of nature have cut through the headland to create this natural geological formation. Admire the Cape du Couedic Lighthouse, established in 1909, in the far south-west corner of the park. A delicious gourmet picnic lunch with wine will be served in a secluded bush setting. During the day koalas can be observed peacefully existing in their treetop habitat. By special permit, enter the Kelly Hill Conservation Park to see kangaroos and other native wildlife emerge from the safety of the bushland to graze on the open plains. Visit Point Ellen at Vivonne Bay, providing you with spectacular views of the Southern Ocean and white sandy beaches. Vivonne Bay offers five kilometers of untouched white sandy beaches and the clearest water you will ever see.

At the end of the days touring, you will be dropped off at your hotel with an Option to take an evening tour to the Penguin Conservation Center to view up close the nocturnal Little Penguins.

Best time to view the Little Penguins – Breeding season for Little Penguins is from April through to the end of November each year and this is definitely the best time to visit. During this time, the adult penguins are concentrating on family matters – mating, laying eggs or returning from sea to feed their chicks. For the chicks, of course there is really just one thing to do – patiently waiting for parents to arrive with dinner!   December and January, the number of penguins decline while the chicks have grown and left the burrows to live their life at sea, the adults begin their annual moult and become increasingly secretive and sedentary.  You still see the penguins, but they are not as active while moulting. February the Penguin Center closes because all penguins live at sea to eat and gain weight lost during the annual moult. Penguins return to land in March to begin looking for their mates and readying their burrows to lay eggs once again.

You will be transferred to the Kingscote Airport for your flights to connect to Melbourne.

You will be met on arrival Melbourne Airport by your Chauffeur Driver and transferred to your hotel in the city.

Balance of the afternoon at leisure to explore the city on foot and the evening free to enjoy one of the many wonderful restaurants around town or in the South Yarra district.

Today you are at leisure in Melbourne for self-exploration of this charming, cosmopolitan city.

Some of Melbourne’s best attractions can be seen via Tram or the City Explorer Bus. Visit Melbourne Zoo, Melbourne Aquarium, Melbourne Observation Deck, Botanic Gardens, Old Melbourne Gaol and Queen Victoria Markets for fabulous food & eclectic fashion. For culture try Victoria Arts Center, Federation Square, Melbourne Museum and National Gallery of Victoria.

The next day join your Small Group Full Day Great Ocean Road Classic Tour with lunch.   Travel down the Great Ocean Road and see the Twelve Apostles. Discover first hand why this trip has become a tourism pilgrimage for so many. You will be awestruck by the natural beauty as we take you through the Surf Coast region of Victoria. Stop at some of the seaside holiday villages of Lorne, Apollo Bay and Port Campbell and look out for the local wildlife, including Koalas, King Parrots and Sulphur Crested Cockatoos. Step down to the beach at Gibson Steps, gateway to the Twelve Apostles. Take in the cool climate rainforests as you travel through the Otway Ranges before coming to Cape Otway where you can climb mainland Australia’s oldest lighthouse. To give you strength to climb to the top tuck into an authentic Aussie barbecue on the lawns outside the historic lighthouse keepers quarters.
