Suggest a 2 or 3 night Extended Stay in these beautiful wine regions  and/or The Great Ocean Road–

The countryside and coastal regions around Victoria are scenic and diverse. If you have the time, we recommend you pick up a rental car and take several days driving around the Yarra Valley, along the Great Ocean Road or to the Mornington Peninsula.

The Mornington Peninsula

Just an hour southeast of Melbourne, lies the Mornington Peninsula a favorite holiday destination for residents of Melbourne for its great beauty with beaches, golf courses, wineries and a whole host of recreational pursuits.  Whether you come up from Melbourne on a gastronomic day trip, spending a few days in the wine country or by the beach touring historic seaside villages, the region’s compact size and diverse array of activities means there’s plenty to fill up your days.

Breathe in the fresh sea air, sample innovative local cuisine, and soak up the relaxed alfresco lifestyle of the Mornington Peninsula. Explore the galleries, spas and cafes in breezy seaside villages, cool off with a day on the beach, or escape to the hinterland for gourmet delights at boutique wineries.  Here you are also close to the Phillip Island Penguin Parade, Koalas and swim with wild Dolphins at Sorrento.

The scenic Yarra Valley wine region

Less than an hour from Melbourne, the Yarra Valley is a whole life experience away, offering quality local food and wine, breathtaking scenery, romantic hideaways and indulgent adventures.

The Yarra Valley is recognized as one of the world’s premier wine growing regions with superb restaurants serving fresh regional produce, luxury accommodation, iconic scenery and stunning artwork.  Home to more than 80 wineries, ranging from small, family-owned operations to large estates. The region is renowned for producing Australia’s finest Pinot Noir and Sparkling Wine, along with a range of other cool-climate wines. It was Victoria’s first planted wine region back in 1838. The region is known for its fresh produce including freshwater salmon, trout and caviar, organically grown fruit and vegetables and handmade cheeses and preserves. Follow one of the many self-drive wine trails and fill your picnic hamper on the Yarra Valley Food Trail or at the many huge, fresh food markets.

De Bortoli Yarra Valley Estate is one of the region’s largest and oldest wineries. The striking modern architecture of Tarrawarra Estate stands in stark contrast. See how premium wine is made on a behind-the-scenes tour and taste maturing wines from the barrel.

The Yarra Valley also has a long history of making beer, and local craft brewers welcome visitors to their micro-breweries to sample their beers and ciders.

Melbourne ~ Adelaide via The Great Ocean Road

The Great Ocean Road is one of the world’s most breathtaking scenic coastal drives, linking Melbourne and South Australia. The landscape is diverse from the rainforest area of Otway Ranges to the coast. The spectacular limestone cliffs, are the Twelve Apostles and the Loch Ard Gorge. From the Bay of Islands to the historic and charming Port Fairy. The South East corner will reveal an incredible diversity of natural features; rugged coastline and wide sandy beaches; lush wetland areas, pine forests and vineyards. The area also incorporates the Coonawarra and Padthaway wine growing districts, producing some of Australia’s finest table wines.

Spend some time exploring Mt Gambier the ‘Blue Lake City’ and surrounds before travelling onto the seaside town of Robe. From here explore through the internationally significant wetland areas of the Coorong before journeying into Adelaide.

There are plenty of touring ‘add-ons’ to expand the Great Ocean Road experience whether travelling around Port Phillip Bay in the east taking in the Bellarine and Mornington Peninsulas or further inland to the Grampians National Park and the Goldfields, across Victoria’s western border to south east South Australia’s boutique wine regions or Kangaroo Island.
