Description

Vava’u, Tonga

Courtesy Wikipedia

The Vava’u group (in the North) has a population of about 20,000 spread over most of the 50 odd islands – about a third live in or around the lovely capital town – Neiafu (and the harbor) where there are four nearby villages Makave, Taoa, Toula and Vaimalo. A place of brilliant colors, blue lagoons (Robin Graham, celebrated author of ‘Dove’ says frankly “This must be one of the loveliest spots on all the earth”), white, fine coral sand beaches, lush green coconut plantations.

Experienced travelers liken the Vava’u group to ‘a cross between the Bahamas and the Virgin Islands.  There are dramatic deep-water drop-offs and brilliant shallow lagoons. Port of Refuge is a celebrated haven for yachts, larger craft and cruise ships from all around the world.

We can arrange day trips to uninhabited islands, scuba diving, a Yacht Charter – sail yourself or skippered and during winter (July-November) an excursion to view the spectacular humpback whales who migrate to these tropical waters from the Antarctic Ocean.
